For Staff Specialist/ VMO positions:

The Department of Emergency Medicine at Nepean Hospital is aiming to increase specialist numbers to guarantee double consultant coverage day and evening. Emergency Physicians are required to fill these permanent positions. This is a great opportunity for FACEMs or successful Part 2 ACEM trainees to commence their specialist career in a supportive environment. Applicants should have FACEM or equivalent, or be in their final year of fellowship training and have passed the Part 2 FACEM exam.  Employment is available as either a Staff Specialist or VMO appointment.  We offer a flexible and unique roster tailored to suit each individual specialist. 52,000+ patients per annum. Paediatric and adult tertiary referral ED; regional trauma and stroke centre.

All medical and surgical subspecialities represented Approximately 20% paediatric load. Accredited primary PCI centre and interventional radiography available. Urban and rural setting contributes to a diverse case mix. The Hospital is currently undergoing a major expansion with additional operating theatres and ICU beds.  Accredited for 2 years ACEM advanced training as a major referral centre with a solid base of provisional and advanced trainees and an excellent training program. Nepean ED is associated with the University of Sydney’s Discipline of Emergency Medicine. Conjoint university appointments are available. Nepean Hospital is located in Penrith at the foot of the World heritage listed Blue Mountains. For those already resident in Sydney, the adjacent M4 Motorway provides easy access with travel times less than getting to hospitals in congested inner suburbs.

For SRMO/ Registrar/CMO positions:

Nepean emergency department invites interested trainees to join the friendly and enthusiastic team who provide emergency care for the Blue Mountains region. In terms of emergency medicine training, this is a tertiary referral centre, accredited for 24 months ED, 3 months Medical Education, 6 months Paediatrics, 6 months ICU, 6 months Anaesthetics, and 12 months General Medicine, as per ACEM. Appointments are available for 12-month period or more. Alternatively, you can rotate for 3 or 6 months as a secondment from your base hospital – you may be able to arrange this with your DEMT or Director.

We have about 52,000+  presentations per year, with a 45% admission rate. 20% of our patients are children. Interesting diverse case mix will keep you thinking and the busy patient flow will keep you on your toes. Accredited primary PCI centre and interventional radiography available. Nepean hospital is a regional trauma referral centre. Those who are interested in spreading the knowledge to others and enlightening the younger generations would find the ‘Medical Education’ term enjoyable, especially working under Dr Croker and learning the tips and tricks in adult education.There are ample research opportunities, under direct supervision of the ED Director himself. Enough encouragement and support will be provided for 4.10.70 projects. Although majority of the education is gained at the bedside with the Emergency Physicians involved with the case, we also have a comprehensive Registrar education program and our trainees have an excellent success rate in the ACEM examinations.
